CellBank’s scientific founder Dr. Arnold Caplan is an internationally recognized expert in stem cell technology and orthopedic innovation.
He has spent more than 40 years as a researcher, entrepreneur and start-up consultant. Dr. Caplan is repeatedly recognized for his leadership in the field of Regenerative Medicine.
It was not until his osteoarthritic wife underwent several orthopedic reconstructive surgeries in quick succession (a total knee replacement followed six months later by a spinal fusion) that Dr. Caplan fully understood the need for CellBank.
When an orthopedic patient undergoes surgery, such as a spinal fusion or fracture repair, surgeons frequently use grafting material, usually a synthetic product or cadaveric tissue known as allograft. Though most surgeons recognize that your own (autologous) bone and marrow is the “gold standard,” the collection of this tissue involves a separate, often painful collection process that can hinder the overall recovery process.
CellBank gathers that valuable bone and stem cell tissue during initial joint replacement surgery. Then, we store it for use during future orthopedic procedures and stem cell therapies. The availability of this autologous tissue can be invaluable in improving outcomes of these procedures.
Dr. Caplan has teamed up with business and orthopedic experts to found CellBank and offer joint replacement patients the chance to be better prepared for future surgeries AND future stem cell therapy needs. CellBank is dedicated to advancing the health and wellness of our customers through innovative products and services that increase patient access to the benefits of adult stem cells and improved health care outcomes.
